Registration is required for groups, virtual groups, and Alternative Payment Model (APM) Entities that intend to submit data for the quality performance category via the CMS Web Interface and/or administer the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) for the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) Survey for the 2021 performance period.

  • Groups, virtual groups, and APM Entities must have 25 or more clinicians (including at least one MIPS eligible clinician) to register to use the CMS Web Interface.
  • Groups, virtual groups, and APM Entities must have 2 or more clinicians (including at least one MIPS eligible clinician) to register to administer for the CAHPS for MIPS Survey.

How to Register

To register, please log in to the Quality Payment Program (QPP) website. If your group, virtual group, or APM Entity (other than an ACO participating in the Shared Savings Program or Next Generation ACO Model) would like to submit data for the quality performance category using the CMS Web Interface and/or administer the CAHPS for MIPS Survey for the 2021 quality performance period, you must register by 8 p.m. ET tomorrow, June 30, 2021. You may edit or cancel your registration at any time during the registration period.

Please note the following:

  • If your group or virtual group submitted data for the quality performance category via the CMS Web Interface for the 2020 performance period, you’re automatically registered for the 2021 performance period, unless you cancel your registration. If your group or virtual group registered to administer the CAHPS for MIPS Survey for the 2020 quality performance period, you’ll need to register to administer the CAHPS for MIPS Survey for the 2021 quality performance period.
  • Shared Savings Program Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) are automatically registered for the CMS Web Interface and CAHPS for MIPS Survey as they’re required to meet reporting requirements for the quality performance category under the APM Performance Pathway (APP). Even though Shared Savings Program ACOs are automatically registered for the CMS Web Interface, they aren’t required to report quality data via the CMS Web Interface.
  • ACOs participating in the Next Generation ACO Model are automatically registered to report the CAHPS for ACOs Survey.

You can register by:

  • Signing in to QPP.
  • Going to the Manage Access page.
  • Clicking “Edit Registration” by 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, June 30, 2021.

You’ll need to have the Security Official role in order to register your organization. Please refer to the QPP Access User Guide (ZIP) and the How to Register for CMS Web Interface and CAHPS for MIPS Survey webpage for more information.

Who Doesn’t Need to Register

Groups, virtual groups, and Shared Savings Program ACOs that are automatically registered for the CMS Web Interface don’t need to register. Shared Savings Program ACOs are automatically registered for the CAHPS for MIPS Survey and don’t need to register. ACOs participating in the Next Generation ACO Model are automatically registered for the CAHPS for ACO Survey and don’t need to register.

Groups, virtual groups, and APM Entities planning to collect and submit data for the quality performance category for the 2021 performance period using other ways (for example, submitting MIPS Clinical Quality Measures through a Qualified Registry) and not planning to administer the CAHPS for MIPS Survey don’t need to register.
